Hey I'm in the Rochester, NY area and wanted to know where a 16 year old can drive for some fun outdoor rock climbing for the spring or about another month or so til winter. Also what kind of shoes should I get?

I don't want to wage a war here, but personally, I think Metro Rock kicks Boston Rock Gym's arse.

I don't think I will return to BRG.

Metrorocks - trip report + invite [Oct. 11th, 2004|09:42 am]

So on Saturday day a few of us checked out the new gym I posted about, Metrorocks (we would have climbed outdoors but I had plans for the early evening). Short version is that the gym is awesome.

Over 70 ropes, I'd say about 45' high at the highest, with tons of lead climbing. It was a pretty good spread of ranges with a noticeable amount in the 11/12/13 range, but I was looking in that area so I'm probably biased.

The staff was nice - chatting about what it took to start a gym, the features they have, etc. They didn't mind us playing take-out on one of the bouldering walls, which was cool. The bouldering area is nice as well, much larger then BRGs and maybe a little less sq ft then Vertical Dreams, but without the cave feel that VD has. The whole gym felt nice an open.

We're heading back tonight at 7pm, so come along! If you need a ride drop a reply to this post.

Hello everyone!

I've been climbing on and off since freshmen year of high school (and I have yet to climb real rocks...don't ask). But anywho, I just moved from New Jersey to Boston for schooling and was hoping that I could reach out to fellow climbers. I used to climb at the NJ Rock Gym and just transferred to the Boston Rock Gym (which is not in Boston I might add) and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out the rating system for the climbs. I'm used to G0, G1, G2, G3...in this gym they climb on a 5.0 scale...can anyone help me compare?

Thanks!

Eve

Hey guys,

There will be a bouldering competition at Vertical Dreams in Manchester, NH on Friday, June 4th.

Registration starts at 6pm, climbing starts at 7. It's $20 to compete, food included.

It's going to be an awesome comp. We're raising money to send some of the kids on our climbing team to Virginia for divisionals. Much fun will be had by all.

feel free to bug me with questions...

Hi everyone, I'm Tim and I'm from Manchester. I've been climbing for about 3 years or so, but I don't have a lot of time to go anymore. This weekend I'm probably gonna end up at Vertical Dreams. I have red hair and will be wearing a black Flogging Molly t-shirt if anyone's going to be there.
